Superb 18Th C Russian Hand Painted Icon With OkladThsi is superb icon with the central hand painted figure. It came in from a recent house clearance from the city of winchester. A former capital of england. Now famous for its large cathederal. The subject of the houes clearance was a man of the cloth who had links with the cathederal. We are informed the items collected were all subject to his private collection of religious icons and other christian related items including carvings and dated many centuries. This is certainly a suberb icon with the oklad decoration of which, during our research we have been informed it is certainly from the 18th century and is of russian origin. To the rear is scratched text into the rear in russian text. Mounted into a wood with a gilt finish. Slight dmaage to.Icon central figure iwth the hands showing through the oklad. The decorative oklad which is quite possibly of a silver. Mounted into the frame with an overall size of about 11 x 9inches with a max depth of about 1.75inches. Condition the overall condition is very good with age discolouring to the oklad. Besides being a very collectabel 18th century russian icon with the hand painted figure, would also look fabulous displayed.
